Boundless - From fence to freedom
Pape Nature Reserve is a sanctuary for wild nature along the Latvian coast. Here, wild horses, bison, and goats roam freely in their natural habitat, unrestricted by fences or human ownership. Fences are among the most common man-made structures, often symbolizing separation and control over nature.
We aim to rethink the fence as a sculptural structure that bridges the gap between people and wild nature, fostering knowledge and a deeper care for the environment. The concept, Boundless, is a modular information point made from repurposed wildlife fencing, telling the story of Pape—a place where human-made boundaries have been removed to give nature the space to thrive. The project symbolizes the poetic transformation from confinement to freedom, highlighting the harmony between humans and the ecosystem that Pape Nature Reserve represents.
By using existing building materials we save the planet’s natural resources and significantly reduce CO2 emissions. Moreover, transforming ordinary, standardized products into playful design objects inspires a fresh perspective on aesthetics - in reimagining the existing - a necessary step in a future defined by limited resources.
