Attic Transformation Apartments
The project involves transforming the unused attic space of a residential building in Copenhagen into four separate apartment units. The area holds historical significance and is governed by a particularly stringent local plan, mandating the preservation of the existing 45-degree roof inclinations. Additionally, the courtyard staircases will be replaced with elevators, necessitating efficient entrance areas in each unit to connect to both elevators and staircases.
The design aims to create spacious and bright apartments, featuring large social spaces and natural surface materials. Full-height French balconies in dormers provides a beautiful view of the Copenhagen harbor and address the challenge of limited ceiling height.
Warm wooden elements such as oak floors, carpentry kitchens, and closets create a pleasing contrast to the overall minimalist white surfaces. Raw concrete details, such as kitchen countertops and backsplashes, contribute to a straightforward yet sophisticated material palette.
Each unit boasts a private roof terrace overlooking the harbor, accessible via a dedicated staircase in each flat. The design of the bespoke terrace staircases integrated seamlessly with the oak kitchens, creating an impression of a cohesive piece of furniture.
